A Dream Deferred
By Langston Hughes
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
I love that!
ReplyDeleteSo what do you think happens to the dream deferred? I'll being thinking about this one all day.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, I love it too :).
ReplyDeleteChris, I know, right? That's why I love this poem so much b/c it causes speculation. I tend to think the person is provided a new dream, but it doesn't negate the loss of the old. But, I dunno. :).
